About
Peter Bering is an artist currently living in Windsor, Ontario. Peter was born in Molidorf, Jugoslavia to prosperous loving Danube Schwabian farmers. He was in a communist concentration camp for four years. He escaped with his mother, grandmother, brother and cousin into Austria and ended up in Canada in 1951. Peter first received acknowledgement for his artistic talents when he won first prize for his painting exhibited in the West Lorne Fair of 1953. Art has become an integral part of his life ever since.
Peter attended the University of Windsor, Wayne State University, and the Ontario College of Art obtaining his Bachelor of Arts, Art Specialists Degree and ten Honour Post-Degree Art Courses - just shy of completing a Master of Arts. From 1960 to 1993 he was an art educator and teacher with the Windsor Board of Education and also taught at the Art Gallery of Windsor and to prospective art teachers for the Windsor Faculty and Ministry of Education.
He has created over 650 original artworks over his lifetime, with several hundreds in circulation or in private collections in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Over the years he has had his work in a variety of juried exhibitions in Windsor, Leamington, and La Cloche and his art was exhibited at Turner’s Gallery in Little Current until 2021.
Peter and his wife, Audrey, showcasing one of his original acrylic pieces in their home that serves as a gallery in itself, with hundreds of pieces decorating the walls.
